Painted and Metal Surfaces
|
Before rust rears its ugly head, coat all painted surfaces with a coat of car wax at least twice per year. This will make your paint jobs last longer and may be more resistant to chips as well as damage from sweat. If rust has already appeared, use bronze wool (NOT steel wool) to loosen the rust from the metal. Then wipe away the bronze shavings with a soft, dry clean cloth, one that will not leave a lot of dust or threads. Using rubbing compound, follow the directions and rub into the metal to prevent further rust. Then coat the painted surface with a generous application of car wax. |

Guide Rods
|
Use only Body Masters lube or
Marvel Mystery Oil on the guide rods. If you have been using something else,
clean the guide rods with rubbing alcohol. You can also use alcohol between
the weight plates if they are sticky. Just be CERTAIN
that the weights are SAFELY pinned up. After cleaning, re-apply the
lubricant lightly. If it runs, you have applied too much.
You can get Marvel Mystery Oil in the automotive department of Wal-Mart, K-Mart, etc. |

Upholstery
|
Use a mild soap and water mix on a daily basis. Simply spray and wipe off. When the upholstery becomes "shiny", this is the first sign that it is breaking down. It will not be too long before cracks and tears appear. |

Stains
|
Stains on either side of the paint or the upholstery can generally be removed with a soft plastic-bristle brush scrub and "Simple Green". This can be purchased at a place like Wal-Mart. It is usually back by the automotive supplies. It comes in a concentrate and all you have to do is mix it down into a spray bottle by following the directions provided. Sneaker marks as well as grease come off pretty well with this product. "Simple Green" can also be used on Cardio Equipment: shrouds of steppers, bikes, kickplates and belts of treadmills. Just be certain to place a towel underneath the back of the treadmill as well as one tucked under the kickplate, to keep excess moisture from getting into the electronics. Also, be careful as you advance the belt – don’t allow the towel underneath the treadmill to get taken completely underneath it. |
